Peter Karbe Seminar in Singapore

In photography, lenses often play an unassuming role in capturing the moment. But unknown to most, lenses interpret the light streaming into the camera and have an important part to play in shaping the photo. Peter Karbe, Chief Optical Designer with Leica Camera AG (since 2002), will deliver a one-night-only seminar to discuss the challenges met through the years of optics design and how Leica has stood at the forefront to maintain itself as the world's leading lens designers for cameras. Karbe, you may recall, was instrumental in the introduction of the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH, Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and X Vario/Vario-Elmar lenses. I wanted to go a little more in depth on my favorite lens from the first video. It is my favorite M lens and between the videos and picture samples you will get my personal point of view on the lens and how I use it. All pictures were taken by myself from London, Paris, Venice, and Miami.

M9-P Edition Hermès Among Priciest?

In the Luxury Cameras So Expensive, You'll Need a Down Payment or Second Mortgage article over on Digital Trends the Leica M9-P "Edition Hermès" - at $50,000 USD - is suggested to be the "most expensive digital camera that’s in production." You might recall that Hermès (the Parisian fashion giant known for its prohibitively expensive wearable accessories) had teamed up with Leica for some special editions. This is true, but to clarify, at this price you're talking about the Série Limitée Jean-Louis Dumas version (of which only 100 sets will be made and is pictured above). It includes a Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH, a Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH and APO-Summicron-M 90mm f/2 ASPH, all finished in anodized silver, and a bag. The more basic Edition Hermès ships with a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and goes for a much more reasonable $25,000 USD... Read more below for additional info, images and videos!
