Calumet, who's been in the photo industry for 75 years - today announced that they’re shutting down in the U.S. The company announced the closing on their Facebook page (and seen above) but their website and Twitter page are gone. Their YouTube page is still up however. Naturally, there's a fair amount of backlash in the comments on Facebook... As the employees were blindsided. They've filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing less than $50K in assets and between $1M and $10M USD in liabilities in court documents.

DC Watch reports that a new Leica MP Olive and X2 Olive limited editions were announced in Japan to commemorate the opening of the Leica Store Kyoto, which will take place on March 15, 2014. It will be the 7th domestic store and located in the Machiya building on the main street of the beautiful Gion "Hanami alley" district of Kyoto. The cameras can be purchased there on that date and select other stores and boutiques as of April 1, 2014. Read more below for additional details and images!

The first Leica store in the Philippines will open in April (or May) at Greenbelt 5 in Makati City (part of metropolitan Manila). They're urging us to "be patient as the design and other requirements for the store will come from the headquarters…" For more information, follow Leica Philippines on Facebook. Leica Store Miami has teamed up with Arizona Highways Magazine Photo Workshops for the Leica S Photo Adventure: Monument Valley workshop - taking place this week (February 8-13, 2014). We spread the word about this epic workshop a while back on our Facebook page. Not only is this incredibly scenic area truly epic... But the gear on-hand for this workshop defies belief. Enough to make even the most hardened Leica shooter drool. They posted some photos on their own Facebook page (which you can see below).

A while back we told you about the "Christmas pop-up store" located in the Burlington Arcade, in London. Back then it was reported that the store will remain in place after the holidays - and that time has come. The Leica Store Burlington is open! You can now find a selected range of Leica offerings in between the rare gemstones, vintage watches and bespoke footwear of Burlington Arcade - the iconic runway uniting Piccadilly and Bond Street. The store is open 09:00-19:00 Monday to Friday, 10:00 -18:00 on Saturday and 11:00 to 17:00 on Sunday.

A while back, we mentioned a potential new inventory management system for Leica stores and customers. We never did hear anything more about that; and we suspect it was probably just a concept video. However, Chris Durkin from Leica Store SoHo has put together this video demonstrating LightSpeed for POS and inventory management in use there.
