Leica Compendium - Third Printing

Erwin Puts will be printing a third run of his “Leica Compendium” book this November. It's not clear if there will be any changes in this run from the 2nd Edition released in August. If the previous two editions are any indication, they will sell out in short order.

There is such a demand for my Leica Compendium book that a third printing is necessary. It will become available end November 2011 and is printed in very limited numbers.

The Stainless Steel "Fake Leica" Sculpture

This is the story of a 350kg stainless steel Leica camera. The sculpture was created by the Chinese artist Liao Yibai. There are only a few of these “Fake Leica” sculptures in the world - one is located in the Leica Store Lisse, Leica Camera AG got one and a distributor got another. The largest one was on display in the Leica Store Los Angeles - until it was later sold. The camera body is based on the Leica M6 and M7 and even has M9 design pieces on the back (LCD screen). This is where the name “Fake Leica” comes from. The lens is a Summicron 50mm f/2, 1953-1960 style. Full details of the design in this PDF. Read more below for additional photos!

Tip of the Week (#013) - No Shutter

Click - nothing. Some times things can get a little out of sync; for example - you go to press the shutter release and nothing happens! Rare, but here's how to get yourself back on track. First, make sure the rewind lever is straight up. Then, using the rewind knob - rewind the film in the direction indicated by the arrow until the slack tightens up. Finally, try the winding lever to make sure it's fully wound and the shutter cocked. You should be good to go now!

Zeiss Planar T* 2/50 ZM lens

Added today is the Zeiss Planar T* 2/50 ZM lens review.

The Zeiss Planar T* 2/50 ZM lens compares directly to the Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 in many ways. They're of the same focal length and speed, neither lens utilizes aspherical elements and both offer fantastic (if not identical) image quality.
