Over on the site Stars & Stripes, a site predominantly read by U.S. military service members - is an article called "Wetzlar: Leica complex shows a focus on the visual". Nothing regular readers of La Vida Leica or those in the Leicaverse in general don't already know, but it's great to see Leica Camera AG, and especially the new Wetzlar HQ get some additional exposure! The Leica World in Wetzlar started out with a special cultural event in the New Year. Ralph Gibson, master of shadows and elegant nudes, talked about his life as photographer and about his experiences with the Leica M Monochrom during a lecture on January 16, 2015. After using analogue Leica cameras since 1961, Gibson explored the potential of a digital camera for the first time with the Leica M Monochrom after a visit from Duncan Meeder, owner of the Leica Store Lisse/Henny Hoogeveen near Amsterdam in 2013. The result was his “Mono” series that was taken in ten different countries – a journey around the world in contrasting black and white. The "Mono" exhibition is on display at Leica Gallery Wetzlar until March 2015.

Dirk Vogel (no, not that one), 45, hails from a town in Germany very near and dear to our hearts - Lüdenscheid/Altena (though now he lives in Dortmund, not far away). As a freelance photographer, he primarily uses a Canon 5D and Leica M9... But for his personal work he prefers black and white film to use with one of his multiple film Leicas, including an M3, M2, M4, M5, 2xM6, R6.2 and R8! He's shared his setups not once but twice. He's had several exhibitions and even published a couple of books. There's an extensive interview, mostly about the latter, with him on the local website unser Lünsche (our Lüdenscheid) called "Who is Dirk Vogel?" (in German) by Iris Kannenberg. Read more below for translation!
