Canon Also Affected by Sensor Corrosion

Regular readers of the site know about the extensive reporting we did last year on the Leica M9 class sensor corrosion issue which we tongue-in-cheek nicknamed "CCDgate" (as a nod to various "scandals" afflicting Apple products in the past). Apparently it is now Canon's turn, with the sensors in the T6/T6i - as reported by Roger Cicala at Lensrentals. Interestingly, Roger also points the finger at the glue in the sensor stack; we did the same thing, and some know-it-alls criticized us... Read more below!

New MS-Optical Perar 21mm f/4.5 Lens

MS-Optical has done it again, and introduced their latest creation, the MS-Optical Perar 21mm f/4.5. If you're not aware, these are hand built "ultra pancake" lenses from Japan by a fellow named Miyazaki. Don't let their super small size fool you; the optical performance is generally very good, as is the quality of the build (though there have been some cute engraving errors in the past). They're quirky, and a bit pricey - but absolutely unique. You can pick one up here for ¥85,000 ($710 USD). Read more below for specs!

New Leica M Monochrom Announced!

In a quick move, and a story we broke yesterday - Leica has released the new M Monochrom ahead of the weekend! Grab the technical specs (in English). Nothing terribly surprising - it's basically a monochrome version of the Leica M/M-P (Type 240). 24MP sensor, ISO up to 25,000, 2GB buffer... Video, live view, etc. It will cost 7.200€ ($7,450 USD). Read more below for details and video.

New Leica M Monochrom This Weekend!

Exclusive La Vida Leica news! Earlier we mentioned a New Leica product on May 1, 2015. At first we thought it was likely to be the new Leica Q (Type 116) according to all current info we had received, but like anything in the rumor business - things change, often quickly. We got some last-minute intel and confirmation from multiple sources - and now know what that is... Turns out that it will be the new Leica M Monochrom (Type 246) after all! Except it won't be announced at the Paris Photo Los Angeles event. It will be announced independently and concurrently... At the Leica Store Los Angeles. More details as they develop, of course... But in the mean time, check out this print ad, which you will be seeing in the upcoming issue of M Magazine... Read more below for the full ad and details!

New Leica Product May 1, 2015!

At the U.S. edition of the celebrated art fair at Paris Photo Los Angeles from May 1-3, 2015 - Leica will be showing a new product (see photo). We're fairly confident that this will not be the new M Monochrom (Type 246). We have that pegged for release in June (at the earliest). While it's definitely coming, and we're hearing rumblings about internal discussions regarding a new product (possibly this one)... It may just be the Leica Q camera.
