Our article posted yesterday, called "The Leica M8 Can Still Find Love" proved to be rather popular! The digital Leica M8 that started it all in 2006. How many of you started with one? Today we're going to share a little more of that love with some blasts from the past. For starters, check out this original Leica M8 brochure! Some interesting stuff to be found in there, including the weight of individual components. Remember that Leica M8 tear down from about a year ago? Here's another nice piece, which premiered at Photokina 2008 on September 22 (and one we shared long ago) - featuring Wim Wenders.

After years of looking at rangefinders and shooting Fuji gear... Calogero Randazzo happened to rent a Leica M8.2 recently, along with Voigtländer 35mm and Leica 50mm Summicron lenses. Naturally, he discovered the joys of the build quality, the manual focusing experience and connection to his subjects. The image quality in both color and monochrome impressed as well. To make a long story short, he ended up selling his Fuji gear and buying the Leica M8.2, 28mm Elmarit and 50mm Summicron! Read more of his discovery in his blog post, "Hello Leica M8." Of course, we've been saying that the M8 is still a good choice for years...
The Image quality is stunning. First I thought, 10 MB and a 9 year old CCD sensor without an AA filter can´t be that good. In digital that is a really ancient sensor…

Late last year, in a huge story on sensor corrosion that we covered here (and shared by over 30 sites worldwide), Leica publicly acknowledged the issue with some of the CCD sensors used in the M9, M9-P, M-E, and M Monochrom cameras, where corrosion (in the form of spots) may appear in images. They began replacing the defective sensors free of charge, and will continue to do so. A trade-up program was also mentioned, and now Leica has made official a trade-up offer allowing those with affected cameras to move up to either the Leica M (Type 240) or the M-P (Type 240). Leica has announced a special new set which provides an "affordable" entry into the world of Leica M photography. The set consists of the Leica M-E camera, and both the Summarit-M 50mm f/2.5 and Summarit-M 75mm f/2.5 lenses. Purchasing these items individually would cost $8,895 USD ($8,395 USD until March 31, 2015 when Leica’s promotion on M ($750) and lenses ($250) ends). This set is available for $6,500 USD, a savings of $2,395 USD!

Through multiple sources, we have confirmed that a Lenny Kravitz edition camera is comingnow official (see below), and will drop in February. We don't know much more at this point, other than it will likely be a brass/brassed finish and nowhere near as cool as the Leica MP pictured below. He is of course, a Leica shooter and published a book called "Flash" which you can pre-order. Read more below for updates and photos!
