Most Expensive Cameras - Leica Has 4 of 11

Perhaps you shouldn't be surprised that Leica cameras appear in lists of "the most expensive cameras." But there's so many things wrong with that. Consumer... Professional... Or special purpose, like the Hubble Space Telescope? Well, it must be that time of year again, as Insider Monkey (a financial trading site, actually) has compiled a list of the "11 Most Expensive Digital Cameras." So take this article with a grain of salt (or three)... As Leica appears not once, not twice - but four times on this list!

Leica on the Future of Sensor Technology

In an article over on Germany's ColorFoto website, there's a discussion by "Leica on the future of sensor technology" (in German). A lot of interesting bits on the sensor of the M and using both R lenses and classic M lenses on it, some CMOS vs. CCD and even the future of the S system. Well worth checking out. Adobe Releases ACR 9.1

Not a whole lot for Leica shooters, but a few notable things. First is the addition of a lens profile for the Voigtlander VM 15mm f4.5 Super Wide Heliar III Aspherical lens. More generic, but nice - new features include both Dehaze and Local White and Black Adjustment Sliders. You can see all the new stuff in the Lightroom Journal post "Camera Raw 9.1 is now available" and specifically the Dehaze feature on the Adobe Blog. To update, use the update mechanism in Photoshop CS6 and Creative Cloud app.

The Future of the Leica M (Cometh)

Exclusive La Vida Leica news! So, earlier in the week we dropped a little tidbit about the Leica Q (Type 116) coming in June. What about the Leica M, you ask? Many people have been thinking that there must be a megapixel monster lurking in the wings - to be introduced at Photokina 2016. Well, we have both good news and bad news - and in both cases, people are going to be talking about this for some time to come. Many will even say we're insane. But regular readers of La Vida Leica know that we've had many exclusive scoops in the past... The (new) Leica M Monochrom, M-E, M-A, T and X Vario to name a few. Read more below and prepare yourself...

CCD vs. CMOS - Animated

Photographer Raymond Sirí who's also an animator, created a couple of simple animations showing how CCD and CMOS sensor technologies go about capturing, reading and storing the information. One important difference is that CCD sensors capture the entire image at once, whereas CMOS sensors capture one row of data at a time (which can cause a “rolling shutter” effect). Then there's the whole CCD vs. CMOS debate amongst Leica users, with strong opinions on both sides of the fence. Read more below for the videos!
