Lenny Kravitz Pens New Book "Flash"

With his new title, Flash, Lenny Kravitz makes his mark in a new arena of the creative arts. During his childhood, Kravitz was enthralled by cameras, playing with them like toys instead of taking photographs. In recent years photographer friends taught him the fundamentals of photography by using a Leica. Intrigued by the possibilities, Kravitz began creating his own works, all of which were marked by close attention to the nuances and effects created by light. As he himself had been endlessly photographed by photographers, paparazzi, and fans - his perspective on aesthetics was decidedly unique. In Flash, he captures the essence of what it's like to be a rock star who's constantly in the public eye. The result: an intense exploration of the photographer and his subject. Flash will be released on March 15, 2015 - coming in at 96 pages in a hardcover, it can be pre-ordered now for $34.42 USD.

Fake Leica Meets Minecraft?

Back at the end of August, the "Fake Leica" sculpture by Chinese artist Liao Yibai that was at the Leica Store Los Angeles sold. It was the largest of several such "Fake Leica" sculptures, and was listed for $1M USD. No word on if it did fetch that much or who bought it - but we have an idea. You may have heard the name Markus Persson. No? He's the guy that created the game Minecraft - which he recently sold to Microsoft for $2.5B USD. Turns out, he just bought a $70M USD house up in Beverly Hills. As you might expect, this mega-expensive bachelor pad comes complete with a raft of cars and art, including "a giant Leica camera." Doing the math, it seems this may just be where that sculpture ended up. One thing's for certain - it's got a sweet view of L.A. below. Read more below for details.

Famous James Bond Leicas Up for Auction?

Remember those Leica cameras that secret agent James Bond (007) made famous? Like the Leica M3 in "Dr. No" or the one in "Thunderball?" Well, now's your chance to pick one up (sort of) - at Richard Winterton’s autumn fine art and collectors’ sale next Tuesday (September 30, 2014) in Lichfield, UK. Read more about it in "James Bond bonanza for 007 fans at Lichfield auction." However, if you view the online catalog of the auction, you realize that they're really just Leica IIIc cameras, and have nothing to do with James Bond. Just clever marketing. Oh well.

The auction also includes several iconic Leica cameras, a brand featured in Thunderball and other original novels...
