Who is Dirk Vogel - Leica Shooter

Dirk Vogel (no, not that one), 45, hails from a town in Germany very near and dear to our hearts - Lüdenscheid/Altena (though now he lives in Dortmund, not far away). As a freelance photographer, he primarily uses a Canon 5D and Leica M9... But for his personal work he prefers black and white film to use with one of his multiple film Leicas, including an M3, M2, M4, M5, 2xM6, R6.2 and R8! He's shared his setups not once but twice. He's had several exhibitions and even published a couple of books. There's an extensive interview, mostly about the latter, with him on the local website unser Lünsche (our Lüdenscheid) called "Who is Dirk Vogel?" (in German) by Iris Kannenberg. High-end Video with a Leica D-Lux 6?

Our friends at Fstoppers ask in a post, "Is It Possible To Produce High End Video With A $600 Point & Shoot?" In the right hands, such as those of Ruslan Pelykh - it would appear that the answer is "yes." After using a DSLR and even a RED Epic - after much research, Ruslan chose the Leica D-Lux 6 because he wanted something small, low cost and unobtrusive. With it, he could shoot full 1080p HD video at 60fps (something a Canon 5D Mk3 can't even do). He is able to manually adjust shutter speed, downsample his footage to 24fps, and get nice SloMo. He doesn't go much above ISO 400 because of noise and there's no manual focus capability - so he just shoots with a wider focal length and stops down a bit to gain DoF latitude. Well worth a read. Glass Facade at Leitz Park by Alfons Alt

Alfons Alt, the art photographer who lives in France, has designed and constructed a work of art in glass especially for the Leica headquarters in the Leitz Part in Wetzlar. The installation across the three-part window on the northern side of the foyer is a particularly eye-catching work and is a fascinating enrichment to the world of Leica experience. You can see more pictures here. Read more below!

Leica 17th Best Mid-sized German Company

Over on the German site Die Welt is an article called "These are the best medium-sized company in Germany" (in German). While Leica didn't make the top ten - they did place at number 17. Of the six consumer goods companies listed, they also ranked at the top. We already knew, but the article confirms that the M Monochrom has far outstripped its initial sales forecast - and that it sells primarily to professional photographers and the medical industry. An interesting read. An interesting read - see more below for translation!
