I talked to Bill at Leica NJ Thursday. My M9-P was set to have the sensor replaced that day. Well, after taking it apart they discovered the the front and rear casings were cracked. There's no way to align the new sensor without completely rebuilding the camera with a new chassis. So now I gotta come up with $1575 to get it fixed and wait on the parts to arrive from Germany... :(

Wow! Talk about bad news. Did they give you an option to exchange your M9-P for an M or M-P, or did the cracked casings rule that out? Anyway, I hope the issue is resolved quickly.

I'm curious how the casings got cracked.

I didn't even ask about the upgrade option. I figured the damage would make a trade-in null and void. Plus I like my M9-P and I don't really have the $3450 for the upgrade even if it was an option. Things are tight as it is. I'm gonna have to scrape up nearly $2K just for repairs.

No doubt it got cracked when I was in Las Vegas and some drunk started swinging at me. Stupidly I had the strap on one shoulder (I NEVER leave it hanging off my shoulder), and I ducked his punch and when I came back up and hit him with an uppercut to the jaw the camera slipped and hit the pavement about the same time the drunk hit the sidewalk. (taking a swing at an ex-boxer is a dumb idea...)

It was working fine after that. I really only sent it in because the corrosion was so bad. I guess once the leatherette was peeled off it fell apart.

Broke my CV 35mm f/1,2 as well. That's off to Japan this week for a $350 fix.

Sorry to hear of your woes RCR.

Now... if only you'd whacked him with the camera.... it may have had a slightly softer landing!

Hope you get sorted out soon.

All the best

I knocked out a photographer with my D3 for taking an up-skirt photo of my girlfriend. Whacked him right on top of his head. Don't mess with my girl. Or my dogs.

A very scary scene! I usually do carry my M9 slung over my right shoulder, but perhaps I should consider your experience a cautionary tale.

That would explain it. As an ex boxer you should have hit him with your face and the camera would have been safe. Good luck on the repairs.
