Right now, I only have one lens: Summicron-M 50mm f/2. I'm thinking about pairing it with a 28mm and a 90mm. I'm debating between a Summicron-M and an Elmarit-M for the 28mm, but may side with the Elmarit-M in order to keep the setup small.

For a fun lens, I might pick up a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 CM. May not be quite as fun as the Lensbaby Sweet Spot 35 that I have for my Nikon :)

Zeiss 35/2 Biogon
Leica 50 Summilux pre (asph in order)
Leica 90/2.8 elmarit last version

I'm actually quite happy with this kit and finally don't feel like changing lenses. I guess I've found my focals and glass.

My current three lens set is: 35mm Summicron-M (4th version with nice bokeh), 50mm Summicron-M (4th version-pre ASPH), and the compact 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit-M (it's a little smaller and lighter than the current 90mm Elmarit-M).
If I was rolling in $ I might consider the new 50mm f/2 Summicron ASPH at around $ 7K!
Maurice
P.S. If I want more depth I can use the Stemar on a screw mount or M Leica!

focal lengths are a personal thing but reading through this is thread is quite interesting. I never really considered myself a 50mm type of man, but since the introduction of the $7200 cron asph, I've been shooting with my lowly $2200 cron pre-asph quite a lot--and now really considering the summilux asph to add some speed to my set...

For the MP, I have a 4 lens set-up: 24 Elmarit-M ASPH, 35 Summicron-M ASPH, 50 Summilux-M ASPH, and 90 Elmarit-M (latest).

For the M3, I have a 3 lens set-up: 35f2.8 Summaron, 50 DR Summicron, 90 Collapsible Elmar.

Hello, thanks for your input over on the other forum.
Would you be able to scrape by with "only" the Cron 28 and the Elmarit M 90? I can get the latter in silver chrome for a not-indecent amount of money, and the cron seems in every way a perfectly good lens for my use (street, people, landscapes, etc). The 90 would be used for much of the same, but when I want a tighter composition.

Should I expect to encounter any difficulties finding a "perfect" 28? Coming from canon, copy variatiion has been an issue with a few of their more expensive short primes, and one zoom..;-)

As for my third lens,if forced to choose, probably the CV nokton 50 for wide open use. The noctilux is so far out of my league, its not even taken into consideration.

Assume you can pick three Leica lenses to form your core set of lenses. Which three would you choose - and why?

My choices for a three-lens set?

Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH
Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH
Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8

All have the same basic diameter and are quite compact. All have 46mm filter threads, making filter sharing easy. All are at the top of their game and work equally well on film or digital bodies and do not require an external VF. 6-bit coded, of course.

I'd add the Tele-Elmar-M 135mm f/4 or the new Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH on the ends as an optional fourth/fifth as they still meet all of the criteria above (save for the external VF on the Super-Elmar-M). Most of these lenses also have a built-in, slide-out lens hood (the 50, 90 and 135) which is icing on the cake.

I am on the way to reduce my choices to 35luxASPH (II) 50LuxASPH and 90 Macro-Elmar (and one Tele-Elmar to make the full set) but I have an eye on a 90Elmarit-M so I'll have a line-up of 46 mm lenses, after selling a lot of 39 mm to simplify my bag. Some day I'll go for a wide, but for now the balance is on the tele line-up.
