The conversation that comes to mind is the M6 vs the MP, a new machine vs 25ish old model which may or may not need servicing.

I'd like to hear how others went through their process of acquisition.

For a faint second I considered Leica digital but there's something that doesn't sit well with me regarding its life span... To think, will you find an M240 in 20 years that still works?

Yes you will find a 240 in twenty years that works. Film and chemical maybe not.

You really think so? The highest end electronics I had from 15 years ago are non functioning paperweights.

Go for the film M then. Either one.

Don't go for the technology, go for the process. What works best for you. Either might work or not work in 15 years time, don't worry about that. Go for what works for you now.

Good advice. I agree: dive in and enjoy the Leica rangefinder experience. I love my M9 and ME, but if they were an M6 or an MP, I'd love the photography experience every bit as much.

One rather minor point if you decide on film: the M6 has a canted rewind crank, as opposed to the extendable rewind knob on the MP. Personally, I like the speed and handling of the crank.
