Stumbled across this image today from "Music From the Films of Stanley Kubrick."

Of course, Kubrick is no stranger to Leica...

Those are some stunning images. Especially the last set. *Sigh*.

I don't know if anyone has seen these in person, but I was at the Kubrick exhibit being held at the LACMA and they had many of his cine lenses displayed including the famous Zeiss 50mm f/.7 and the not so well known wide angle attachment which make the lens a 25mm.

Sorry about the exposure, the iPhone is tricky that way

Those really are something, that last set aren't they? Seems like a really interesting time, too 1947. Oddly enough, NYC looks quite the same today. Cleaner in some spots, dirtier in others perhaps.

That's interesting, Alex. I don't recall hearing about the attachment. Thanks for sharing those shots. In the second I immediately spotted the A Clockwork Orange poster in the background. Heh. Just recently watched it - on Blu-Ray. The ol' Ludwig Van was exquisite.

If you zoom in and increase the brightness  you can read what they said about it. Apparently the distortion was too extreme with this specific attachment, so during the actual filming of Barry Lyndon they used a different one that made the lens a 36mm

Aha! I zoomed in and was able to read it (without having to adjust the brightness but just barely)... Interesting indeed. One of these days, I'm going to have to watch that movie. It didn't exactly get the best reviews, LOL.

A wonderful story (one of the best books of the 19th century imho) and a beautifully shot movie. It's definitely worth watching
