I wrote a review on the new Leica M-A (Typ 127) I used Kodak film to test the camera, and have posted these images along with my review under the following URL:

Another very helpful review, Jip. The accompanying photographs are excellent. I particularly like the shot of the woman walking past the image of the opening doors. Was that taken in a museum, and if so, which one?

Very nice article, but I do not get your point on the older Ms:
"But with a very big secondhand market for very good mechanical Leica rangefinder cameras Like the M4, M2, or even a M3 if you can live with just 50/90/135mm frame lines it is maybe hard to justify such a high price."
Both M4-P, M6 classic/TTL, MP have the 28/90 frame.

What is the real benefit of the M-A, other then being newly manufactured?

Thank you.
Best regards,
Carlos.

Sorry, I misread/did not read "Special thanks to
I would like to thank Rob van Keulen and the rest at Transcontinenta for lending me the Leica M-A (Typ 127) and making this review possible."

I assumed you've purchased it before writing the article.

Thank you.
Best regards,
Carlos.

It's a newly manufactured (with full warranty) option for those that don't want a built-in light meter, as with the current MP/M7... A purely mechanical camera. Sure, you can pick up an older model - it just won't be new (and might need a CLA) or come with a warranty.

Some times, you just want to be the first owner.

Personally, I prefer a meter. I also like having aperture priority, which is my preferred shooting mode. So it's an M7 for me all the way. But the M-A does have a certain appeal... Much like a purely mechanical watch.

I wonder why nobody talks about the improved rangefinder it should have. So that's of NO benefit to anybody? it's all about having a new beauty? The mechanical differences? production quality? None?
I'm not even arguing in favor of the older cameras, just trying to provoke a more precise review of the new model. All this look and feel bla bla, honestly? it's getting boring. Here at least it's been well made in style, picture selection, etc. We know that feel and you have it with an older CLA'd camera, too.
Leica is doing a poor job either here, could really point some differences in production quality, if there are, and surely there are differences between the 80s and now.

t&br,
Carlos.

I don't require any "new and improved" RF... Works well for me as-is (my M7 has the MP upgraded VF, .85x and customized framelines).

And what would you have Leica improve as far as build or quality?

I'm not understanding what you're expecting, here.

I'm expecting nothing specific. I was pointing towards the difference between an M6 RF and the latest MP/M7 RFs. Mechanical, since the M3 and between all the models there must have been changes, but don't know what and where and am curious to see more details on that. So is the M-A exactly produced as an M7 20 years ago? Sure not.

Nothing you have to understand.
