So yeah, I waited until the bitter end... Sent both my M9 and MM in to Leica before they killed the sensor replacement program on August 15th.

Repair estimate given was 20 WEEKS! Ugh.

I heard from them in the mean time, and both are getting new sensors, so there's that at least.

But according to rumors, the M9 will have a new lease of life as OEM branded Zenit!

Will be interesting to see how it’ll be priced.

I sent my M9 in for checking and possible sensor replacement by leaving it at the Leica Store LA on June 21. I was notified that Leica Service received it in less than a week, and about a week after that I was notified that the sensor would be replaced at no charge. The camera was returned by UPS 2nd day air, arriving October 5. :D I was told the turnaround time could be as long as 24 weeks; it took 15 weeks.

I sent my M-E in for sensor replacement on July 23, much closer to the program deadline, so we'll see how much longer the turnaround time is for that camera. At least I have a Leica in my hands now...I was beginning to experience severe withdrawal symptoms.

"If the rumors are true..." I won't hold my breath. :p

I'm thinking waiting until literally the last minute didn't do wonders for my turnaround time... But that's okay. I'll have the freshest (latest model) sensors, so there's that, at least.

Ha! "Twenty weeks" my ass. After contacting Leica NJ this week, inquiring as to the status of my cameras, which should've been nearing completion... I was told:

Quote:
Both of your cameras are waiting for parts. The sensors are on back order they are due to arrive in mid-January. Just to let you know the technicians are working on the month of May for the Monochrom and the end of June for the M9. Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Concerns? Where do I even start with this?!

That's mind boggling. Like you, I sent my M-E pretty close to the deadline, and like you I ended up waiting for a new batch of sensors to be delivered to Leica Service in NJ. About a month ago they told me they had been told the sensors would take "about 4 weeks." I just wrote them an email note this morning asking for a status report. I needn't have bothered.

It's insanity.

I spoke with Dr. K directly, and he apologized for the service in the U.S. Clearly, they know it's a problem. The director of German service will be contacting me...

On a related note... Someome in Germany paid (1,000€) to have their sensor fixed, sending an M9 in at the end of October - and got it back by the end of November! So clearly MONEY TALKS.

My Dad - a veritable fount of wisdom - used to say "Son: it's not what you know, it's who you know that matters!" I'm sure he would have agreed about the money, too (on those occasions when he had the discretionary cash). ;)
