Here is a worthwhile article for Leica M shooters who want to travel light and fast when photographing while traveling:

http://www.yanidel.net/2011/03/07/in-pr ... ravel-kit/

(yes, it's an old article but is still worth a read in my opinion)

What are your thoughts on the two lens Leica M travel kit? Would yours be a 35 and 90, or something different like perhaps a 28 and 50?

Either 21-50-90 or 35-50-90 for me. Then ideally pick one lens per outing.

I'm pretty used to 35-50-90 myself, but recently I've been thinking that 21-50-90 would be more useful. It was very rare for me to switch between 35/50, but 90 I used quite a lot.

50 is the main lens and with current setup the only lens.. this will be sorted in the future :-)

We also have an article here - The Travel Kit.

Personally, unless space is at an utmost premium, I bring my usual complement of lenses. The 21mm f/1.8 Ultron, Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH, Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8. If necessary, I'll drop off the first and last.

If space is really at a premium, I'll use my 21/28/35/50mm Color Skopar LTM lenses (possibly substituting the 50 for the Summilux just for the speed). You can fit all of them in a pocket they're so small! :)

There's always room for that 90 elmarit-m! It comes packed full of Leica pixie dust.. one of those "crack cocaine lenses", it's addictive.

It's the next lens I'll get back to my collection. Was a terrible mistake to sell it..

It's the best 90, IMO. Okay so it's not as fast as the APO... But it's only one stop and it takes 46mm filters. IQ-wise it's nearly as good. Win-win if you ask me! Leica should have never discontinued this lens... But I guess they want to push their Summarit line.

100% agreed! That filter size is the last part of the puzzle.. combine the 90 with 50 slux asph and 28 cron or 35 slux fle , you'd be home free with one filter size. Fantastic.

It also has great ergonomics, just the right size for me. Handles great.

The filter size is one of the biggest reasons I chose it! :)

Along with my 28 cron and 50 lux, it's aces. Especially when shooting the MM with contrast filters. Ergonomics are great, yes!

I ran across that article/website some time ago and was very helpful.

As I travel every other week for my work and carry my camera with me, luggage space is a premium and keeping it light imperative.

While shooting with a DSLR a few years ago I thought I needed the full focal range to cover any and all opportunities. The size and weight kept me from carrying it.

Now that I've gotten over the idea I need the entire focal range I am quite happy with just my Leica M-E and Leica Summilux 35mm.

I do have a 50 Lux and the latest version 90 Elmarit but I'd like to try a 75 Lux and pair down my system to a 35/75 combo and be done.

I'd use the 75 Lux mostly at home for nightclub photography as we have a couple great music venues in town where I live. I'd like to have the extra couple stops and of course the 75 Lux signature rendering.

The 75 apo summicron would be a great smaller/lighter choice and cheaper too! Sure you lose a stop of light, but with M240 even that wouldn't be a problem..

I may rent the 75 APO version to see how I like it. But I really like how the Lux version renders.
