Modern photography is very different from what it once was. It is rare to look back at some of the famous photographers of the past and see any photos utilising or even showing a shallow depth of field, but today there are many photos that stand on a shallow depth of field alone.

It's all highly subjective, so post whether you think it's "good" or "bad", "harsh" or "smooth".

Also don't forget to mention the lens and medium used!

I kind of like the "light shapes" in this one.

A thread full of awesome. :)

My favorite is the Zeiss C Sonnar T* 1,5/50 lens. Despite it's "reputation" I just love it. All of the following on the M9 save for the last - which was on the M8.

No longer have the Nokton 50 1.1, but it's fun to try it out if you have the opportunity

Those last two are especially cool shots Alex!

More from the Voigtländer 50mm f/1.1 Nokton - on the M9:

A couple from me taken with a Lumix L1 and Leica Macro Elmar-R 1:4/100.

The first I think is spoilt by the bokeh of a twig on the left of the poppy, but is nicely out of focus with bright colours. I like the second, which is unfortunately slightly out in the foreground but I think has a sort of watercolour effect to the background bokeh

Thanks Michael, some of your images with the Nokton are really amazing.

And nice shots Bob. I love the detail on the poppy, I looks almost like paper with the wrinkles.

Some great examples by Antonio and Pobe...I'll have to try to keep this going.
