In case you hadn't heard the news, Cosina/Voigtländer has announced a new M mount 50mm f/1.5 Nokton lens!

Optically it's unchanged from the previous LTM version, which is great news as it's a much loved lens, especially for B&W shooters. Mechanically it's built more to look like the original version as seen in the 1950s Voigtländer Prominent. Performance wise it's always been excellent.

The specs:

  • M Mount (not LTM like previous version)
  • Focus from .7m to infinity (down from .9m)
  • 6 elements, 5 groups, 2 aspherical
  • Aperture range of f/1.5 - f/16
  • Black or Silver finish available
  • 49mm filter size (down from 52mm)
  • 47.7mm (Length) x 53.8mm (Diameter)
  • Price and availability TBD

Very good to hear Cosina continues to make Leica M lenses, we're still waiting for the new ZM whatever it is

Fantastic news indeed. They're on fire lately.

Whatever happened with that ZM? Instead, they killed the Ikon! Ugh.

So far I'm very happy with my 50 Lux pre-ASPH e46. Granted the price of this new Voight will probably be less than half what I paid for a used lens.

+1 The pre-asph is a great lens

I know this is an ancient thread, but I would love to see a comparison between this lens and Voigtländer's f/1.1 - I simply can't decide which one to get. :-)

Granted, it's not a huge difference - but do you need the speed? The f/1.1 is a fairly heavy, larger lens. It also has a little bit of focus shift. But it's a lovely lens; sharp. The bokeh of the f/1.5 is nicer - the other, at f/1.1 - can be a bit wiry/nervous. I tend to shoot mine stopped down a tiny bit, f/1.4. The f/1.5 has always been a highly regarded lens. Personally, I'd go with that one unless you need the speed.
