Just couple of weeks ago Zeiss made a statement promising a surprise to ZM lovers in Photokina. So far it's been pretty damn quiet. Anybody have any inside track on this? Think they were semi-promising fast zm's for 2013.

<rant>But now I'm seriously surprised (and not in a positive way) if they just remain quiet and not tell anything... Maybe that's the real surprise, hopes up and then a letdown. ZM's always deliver, so I guess Zeiss not delivering would qualify as a surprise. </rant>

It appears some of the messages out of the Zeiss camp where mixed (perhaps translation is to blame).

Apparently several lenses where announced. The ZM is due in 2013, but not going to be announced during Photokina :(

Talk about a letdown..

Well, on the positive side if it's going to be 35/1.4, I'd be left salivating for months.. now I can enjoy my current lenses until the announcement!

Exactly. Other than the new Voigtlander no lenses for Leica M were announced at Photokina. I guess in Leica's case, they didn't want a lux 28mm to upstage the new cameras...still kind of a disappointment for those of us who love new glass ;)

Yeah, I'm a little curious about the new Lux... Maybe they'll just toss it to us quietly after all the brouhaha dies down. :p

As for the ZM, I haven't heard a peep. Just that it's coming next year. Lame.

I think we'd all love a fast, small(er) 35. But I got to thinking... Nobody liked the 2/85 mostly because of the size, weight and price (though optically it was sublime) and nobody likes the 4/85 because it's rather slow at f/4. So what about a 2,8/85 or 2,8/90 lens?

I wouldn't mind a 24/2 or a 21/2 seeing as that's a gap in the wides with Leica. Also there's a huge price jump between the Elmars and the Summiluxes that Leica offers. Something to split the difference and add some speed would be great.

Interesting to see how this turns out next year.. especially now that Zeiss Ikon is cancelled. Digital Ikon next?

They themselves have admitted that they're "too busy making lenses for Sony." Not to mention all the Touits for E and X mount. They've forgotten the M lens market entirely.
