Zeiss 35/2 Biogon
Leica 50 Summilux pre (asph in order)
Leica 90/2.8 elmarit last version

I'm actually quite happy with this kit and finally don't feel like changing lenses. I guess I've found my focals and glass.

Scheissen, as the germans might say.. I'm starting to think I need a new 35. The biogon is quite nice, but it's not 90 elmarit-m nice.. The zeiss draws in a bit of a "cartoonish" way, which I don't really like. It only happens every now and then.. but when it does, it bugs the hell out of me.

Any suggestions on a 35 with similar character to the 90 elmarit-m? I know the 90 is a mandler deisgn as is my 50 pre-asph slux, so maybe I need to go that way? A mandler 35.. or just go all guns blazing, pile up the cash and go for the FLE?

Suggestions anyone?!

Interesting. Do you have a sample of that sort of rendering?

As for a more classic 35, consider the pre-ASPH Lux. Really lovely rendering that's similar to the 50 Lux Asph. Which sadly, doesn't jive in the FLE version. The 35 Nokton is another good choice (a.k.a. the Bokton).

I'm on the road with a camper for couple of more days, so can't show an example right now. But I'll be sure to show some as soon as I get back home.

For a while, it was a 35mm 2.5 Summarit, 50mm 2.8 Elmar M, and 90mm 2.5 Summarit. Then came number 4: 24mm 3.8 Elmar M.

Cheers,

Antonio

I looked and looked for a deal on a 19mm Elmarit lens to put on my R8 with a DMR. The DMR gives a 1.35 X factor on lens. Finally found one on EBay this spring from an estate sale,

I also carry my 35mm 2.8 Elmarit that functions more like a 50mm.
The classic 100mm Macro lens performs flawlessly for portraits and macro shots.

In the short time since I first posted, my 3 lens set up has changed a few times.

ZM C-Biogon 21mm (or the SE 21mm if I get a digital Leica)
Summicron 35mm asph
Macro Elmar 90

Another option would be

ZM (or SE) 21mm
ZM Sonnar 50mm (or a Summilux 50mm when I get the balls to drop $4k)
Telyt 135mm

Interesting to see all the set-ups people have; definitely lacking in the tele department...I personally couldn't go away for more than a day and not bring my 90 or 135.

In order to get the sharpness, relative lack of flare, negligible distortion, without the "clinical" sharpness and contrast often associated with the Zeiss, asph Summicron, or the asph Summilux. I'd look into either the version 4 pre-asph Summicron or the new (and wonderful) Summarit.

I just did buy 4 lenses in the past few weeks after jumping on the Leica boat as well:

Leica 50mm f/1.4 ASPH
Leica 35mm f/2 ASPH (my favourite)
Leica 28mm f/2.8
VL 35mm f/1.2

For longer focal length I'd use my 5dIII with the 70-200 f/2.8 or the 85mm f/1.2 (both very heavy but amazing lenses)

Congrats. That's quite a set up to put together in just a few weeks.

28/2.8 asph
35/2 asph
50/1.4 pre asph

Used in conjunction with M9 and/or film M body. Either 35mm alone or 28/50 pair.

I used to like/have lenses wider than 28mm but I can't stand external viewfinders.
