I have a Leitz Canada 1:2/35 Summicron Lens 2541691 It LOOKS like a lens Ken Rockwell, identifies that is made in Germany as it has the screw attachment as in the image below

It also does not have the normal 5 or 6 hole attachment of the lens mount. What is this lens in reality, what 6 bit code would I use? I have used it on M9 and it works great. But I have no idea really what lens it is.

If it says, "Leitz Canada" then that's probably what it is... I wouldn't go by KR as any standard of authority. It's possible the lens is a "tweener" made between factory transition, or repaired with parts from another lens. I'd look up the serial number and go from there.

As for coding, I'd simply code it as a Summicron 35mm f/2 pre-ASPH (Type IV): ⬜⬜⬜⬛⬛⬜ (000110).

Based on the serial number it was made in 1972 making it a version 3 Summicron. I believe it's from the first batch of this lens to be made in Canada.

However looking at the picture it looks like a version 2 lens. :?

Could you post a couple more pictures of it from different angles?

Just to clarify, during the 60's - 80's the same lens designs were often built in Germany and Canada simultaneously.

It's quite possible for you have a Canadian built version while KR bought the German version.

There's often a bit of snobbery about the German versions being better and hence command higher second-hand prices.

In my experience there's no difference between them apart from the cost.
