I can't speak for the particular models you refer to but I bought a Canon Pro-1 a year or so ago. Yes built like a tank, far superior to my previous HP and Epson printers and the output is superb. Inks are not cheap but I get plenty of prints out of a set of cartridges, which again is better than my previous printers.

There was an earlier poster who just picked up the Pixma 100; B&H had one of their sales the other day with an instant discount of $100, rebate of $250 from Canon and threw in a box of 50 sheets of 13'' x 19" paper. Did I mention free shipping? Except for the size (still looking about the apartment for space) just couldn't resist the deal.

$49 all in.

Essentially free. Can't beat that.

So JD, what's your opinion of the Pixma 100?

Sorry, I'm not JD, but as noted above in this thread, I also got the Pixma Pro 100 from B&H w/ the Canon rebate, & have been using it quite a lot in the last 3-4 weeks after it was delivered. I am very satisfied with it so far, having tried it on a couple of the Canon papers, & some of the Canson papers as well. I just received a sample pack from Red River paper & am planning on printing a collage image I created for test purposes. It is extremely well built, quiet in operation & produces print quality better than I was getting sending my images to White House Color folks. However, a couple of my inks are already at 50% so it appears that this may be the only drawback to using it. But the colors & B&W it produces are quite amazing. I already have printed a dozen 13X19 prints I have framed & have hanging on the walls of my den. Having said all of this, if I could have afforded it, I probably would have gone for one of the Epson P600 or P800 printers. But for what it cost, the Pro 100 is most impressive.

Sorry 'jedorme'!
I'm awaiting the Pima's arrival myself so that's reassuring info. I guess all of these printers blow through ink like no one's business. "That's how they get you". Wasn't even looking for a printer but too good a deal to pass up.

I like it. It's easy to use and the output is just fine. I had to experiment with some different papers. The printer does a nice job.
