So now that the Q has been out a little while and emotions sorted... What does everyone think of the Leica Q?

Personally, I think it's a nice camera. I'm not in the market for one, so I won't be getting it... Though I would definitely consider it if I were. Truth be told though, in my case - I'd rather have a 35mm version.

28mm is nice but a fixed lens camera is too restrictive for me on a full frame body.

I like it. May end up swapping my X113 for it. Q has builtin evf, closer focusing fast lens, better AF by far etc benefits. And in crop mode I get in practise the same 16mp photo for 35mm.

Price is steep, but I'm seriously considering it.

I haven't been to the Leica Store LA [read: "candy shop"] to try one out yet, but I agree with JD's that a fixed lens is too restrictive. I guess the M-cameras spoil me for anything else, at least in 35mm format.

If one were starting out the Q might be a nice beginning.

Having used M bodies and lenses for a number of years I wouldn't go backwards and pick up a Q for a number of reasons:

1. Fixed lens.
2. Restricted focal length.
3. It has a cropped feature for 35 and 50mm but a resolution loss due to crop.
4. No optical viewfinder. Part of the nicety of the M is the frame lines.
5. I think, and this is only my opinion, that it was designed for AF. That ain't me.
6. Optical Image Stabilization is not as effective as IBIS.

A fixed lens isn't too restrictive if it's well-priced like the Ricoh GR and its place in your kit well-understood. The Leica's lens seems to have some deficiencies (Lloyd Chambers evaluated it carefully); this despite being optimized for the body, which is not excusable given its price.

If you normally shoot on the wide side, it's a stunning camera. I found the EVF to be terrific (I usually hate them) and manual focusing feels like the real thing rather than by wire. IQ is pretty extraordinary from what I've seen. And, to top it off, this is a camera that my wife would feel comfortable shooting -- she's AF all the way, and would love the wireless uploading to her phone for web distribution.

Of course, there's the cost, and that must be weighed. And, no, I haven't bought one -- but I sure am tempted.

Looks like a great camera spec-wise, but at that price point I'd buy a 28mm Summicron for my M9-P or a used MM body.

I look forward to having a set of these. Easier and faster than a single body with multiple lenses. Ideal combination would be a 28mm and a 60mm bodies.

As it turns out, from what we understand from Leica - if the Q is popular enough, they'll make other versions in different focal lengths... So it seems there might be some very happy people in the future.
