Frustrated and getting more so with Leica-land.

Does anyone on THIS forum have both an M8 and an X1? That is a simple request, and I would appreciate anyone on this or any other forum volunteering to take a single photograph with an M8 and the same photograph at the same time with an X1.

How hard is that?

Let me know if anyone is willing to help someone who has no Leica store within a thousand mile drive of Atlanta. If there was one, I would not ask for help.

Thank you in advance for any assistance,
:!:

I have an M8 but no X1.

Doesn't Showcase sell Leica?

KEH is in Atlanta as well.

Nope, one of my mentors works there and says Showcase never even SAW a Leica camera.

KEH is no help at all since there is no showroom and they stopped allowing people to come by "take a gander" because it is too much trouble to pull from one warehouse to let someone see it in another. I think Miami is the closest Leica dealer.

Somehow I think Leica missed the boat with thinking the folks in the South are either too poor or too redneck to buy Leica cameras.

Anyway, I found a fellow Ga. Tech grad who happens to have both an M9 and X1 here in Atlanta, called him up and he will do a comparison image test for me.

Again, how can anyone in the Atlanta area even handle a Leica without knowing someone who owns one? It isn't like we are out in the middle of nowhere. We even have running water where I live.... :o

UPDATE...

My friend and fellow alum gave me the X1 for a field outing and it worked superbly! Might even wind up buying his soon.

However, I am still unsure if the X1 or the M8 will fill the need for the direction in which I need to take my photography. If I still do small town documentaries, it is certainly capable based on the images obtained yesterday with the X1. Test images are below...

But, now, I am contemplating selling the M3, Summarit and the III F to work with the D700/800 purely for the ability add different types of photography where people are actually willing to pay for the services whether it be products, events, or sports (again...ugh)....

Business decisions sometimes are difficult when what I really want to do is enjoy photography and NOT worry about making it a business. But life happens. Grrr.
