It is becoming difficult for me to separate the two.

I don't see how a photographer (and not just a button pusher), can really NOT do art in some form or other. Now that I am a full-time photographer, it is a business.

Just finished my first book in a series of small town documentaries. The books are just something I have to do, can't really explain it because they are money out of my pocket with no way to make a profit. Still, I may decide on some videos to sell, prints to sell, or possibly a gallery in each town.

DIY publishing has taught me a lot. I can only imagine what I will experience and learn with a gallery. :!:

That's great, Dave - congrats! Sounds like a neat project too. You could sell them online and through forums...

I like the book idea, as it's different than just viewing something on the web. It's more tangible - you can pass it around anywhere. Being physical, it's something that can be handed down (like negatives and prints) or serve as a sort of legacy. I've been wanting to do some myself, if for nothing else than making my own modern version of the old "photo album." Remember those? :D

A gallery experience is very cool. I was lucky enough to have my work displayed on the C.W. Post campus many years ago. It's something that I've been thinking about lately as well, along with attending some local town fairs as a vendor (with targeted prints on display). A project of mine is not so much small towns - but local parks, preserves and "gold coast mansions."

As a newbie to galleries, now I must find someone who has the best idea for framing/showing. I think it should be simple and inexpensive but this is new to me so anyone that has experience with this sort of thing, please let me know! ;)
