I am receiving a Leica M 8.2, a Zeiss C 35mm 2.8 T*, an IR Cut Filter and hood on Tuesday.

I have 821,295 questions.

I'll start with #1.

How is the battery life, in general?

Typically, on a decent and fully charged OEM battery you can expect 200-400 shots with 300 or so being the average. It depends greatly on how much "chimping" you do, and what the image review and power-down times are set for, etc.

On the M8 I always use 4GB cards. So for the way I shoot, I usually ended up swapping out the battery and the card at the same time (I have multiple cards and batteries).

Thank you.
I do believe a second battery is in order.
A 4 gig card was included with the camera and I have a couple 8 and 16 gig.

You're welcome. I'd always recommend at least a second battery; it gives you a backup should your original come up a bit short or fail on you. With larger cards, definitely.
