If you weren't aware, Leica released this past Wednesday Firmware v1.174 for M9/M9-P cameras.

This update is specifically a bug fix release and pertains to the SD card issue (see here, here and here):

Quote:
1. Bug fixes:

Leica Camera has become aware of customers experiencing compatibility issues related to select types of new memory cards when used in the Leica M9. This Firmware 1.174 fixes a bug that led to the faulty behaviour. Generally Leica recommends to use SD / SDHC Cards from San Disk. Until further notice, the following SD-Cards are still not recommended to use, because some misbehaviour occurred in the test phasis.

- San Disk Extreme Pro SDHC I UHS-1 (all card sizes)
- San Disk Extreme HD Video SDHC I (all card sizes)

I never had any problems with my older cards, nor my new San Disk Extreme 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards. I installed the update just the same... Usual procedure, no surprises - worked perfectly. I think. ;)

I have to wonder though. If you have multiple cameras and share SD cards, obviously that's unavoidable and in fact, smart. I can also understand "future proofing" as much as possible - I did the same when I went for my "Extreme" cards. But using the latest cards in a camera that at best hits 3fps let alone video... No reason it shouldn't work if standards are followed by all parties, etc. But if problems do arise, should this be a surprise to anyone? I'm going to go with "no."

Anyway, firmware's out for those that are having problems. I can't say if it fixed any of them, but the install otherwise went just fine.

The used M9 I recently purchased is running firmware version 1.138. The prior post discusses firmware update 1.174. According to Leica Camera AG's customer support webpage, the most recent firmware update is 1.202.

Has anyone had any experience uploading and using version 1.202?

Now I'm going to reveal the deplorable state of my computer skills:

Am I correct in assuming that in updating from firmware 1.138, all I need do is upload the most recent upgrade - 1.202? Or, is it necessary to upload prior firmware upgrades?

No sir. You can load the latest.

Yup, just update using the latest. They're all-inclusive, thankfully.

Thanks very much! I followed the instructions on the Leica Camera website and the download went smoothly. The updated M9 retained my settings and works fine.

Congrats - well done!

The camera should work better in several areas for you now.
