I know none of us have the M yet, but lots are using or have used R lenses...so lets post some sample photos using any camera with an R lens.

Really nice shots, Alex! There's no denying the R lenses are very capable.

Thanks Michael, I need to leave LA with my teles to see what they're really capable of, because shooting buildings a mile away and crows eating trash in the alley doesn't really do it for me :)

The APO Telyt 180mm is famous for being perhaps the "sharpest" Leica lens ever made. It has the added bonus of being about the size you'd expect a 180mm M lens to be, and even now with the announcement of the M this lens can still be found for under $1250. The bokeh is iffy, but the contrast, sharpness, and ability to handle high contrast scenes are undeniable.

Well that's certainly impressive. You can make out individual spider web strands, grain of the wood, etc. I love that a lot of the longer R lenses are APO corrected. A lot of the cost is right there.

Case in point. The Hasselblad Sonnar 250mm f/5.6 CF lens. Can be had for as little as $450 if you shop around. That same exact lens - albeit the Superapochromat version - costs $5k or so. That's a full magnitude more expensive!

Now that there's an "official R solution" I suspect a lot of what's left of the killer R lenses will go up dramatically. Should've bought two weeks ago. :p

Michael

Hope it's ok but I've started a few threads in the Lens Sample Photos section for those that might be considering getting a few R lenses in preparation for the release of the new M.
