I just sold a nice 50mm Cron v.II for next to nothing! The glass was immaculate. I wish you'd have posted earlier. We could have made a good deal.

Damn!!!!

Why 'next to nothing'? An unscratched sample is hard to come by.

I had some court fees that needed covered.

Couldn't get a reasonable offer on craigslist so I took it back to the shop I bought it from.

If a lens will work well on film or other bodies, it will work well on the MM! Especially wides, which Dave alludes to - because there's no weird colorization issues to worry about.

One of my favorites on the MM is the 50 Lux. For all the same reasons it's so nice on other bodies; super sharp from wide open, fast, reasonably small, etc. Your 50 Cron should be just as nice, and you won't miss the one stop in speed on the MM, which handles high-ISO fantastically. Same with your 28 Elmarit. The 90AA should be *really* nice, if sharpness is what you seek - and the MM will exploit that fully.

Lenses to avoid? None that I can think of. ;)

I have best results with 50 Summilux ASPH FLE even if the 35 Summicron works very well.

Waiting for the arrival of a 35 Summaron ƒ/2.8 and 50 Summicron Rigid. Let's see if it's "all that"....

I've been toying with the notion of an old Summarit or Summar 50.

Yes, the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH is really a great lens on the MM. I shot with this combo extensively last weekend, shooting portraits.

Nice, congrats! They both have a great reputation. Would love to see some samples after they arrive.

I've got an old Summar 50mm. It's a great little lens. Really plays up the Leica film look with black & white.

I'm looking at a 35 Summicron 8-element. Very tempted. Very....

Any Lens is the best glass for the Monochrom, if it produces the results you envision.
You are the artist, you can't really rely on others to choose your brush. You can ask what lens they like, but their artistic vision is different. Even if its similar, their shot discipline is most likely different or their environment is different. Newer lenses tend to be sharper, older lenses tend to be softer. Sharper is not necessarily better, soft has it's limits. Older lenses tend to have more character, but you may not want that... How to choose... Go to a dealer, try a few... Rent one that you like or borrow from a friend. It's your eye, your artistic vision, you need to decide what works for you.

True, but because unlike most old Nikkors that are pretty affordable and easy to sell, the outlay for even an old Leica lens is sizable and so guidance from others is essential. At times, I do like the "character" element but not for all subjects at all times.

Old stuff isn't available for renting so one must rely on available images and the opinions of another (taken with a grain or two of salt, as it were).
