My wife wants me to save this image, and I have been struggling with the color for quite a bit. Purple candle, halogen, tungsten and economy bulbs, all mixed. Is the result acceptable? I don't see it any more...

That's quite a bit of mixed lighting! I've got a few ideas - I'll follow up tomorrow morning.

My Photoshop-Fu isn't all that, but here are some quick attempts... Ideally, though more time consuming is to use layer masks and paint color temp changes into certain areas, etc. Of course, another option is to crop the photo.

See notes below:

I'll come back to this - but first I have to restore my data disk - I did something stupid and erased it... But fortunately I am good at backups... :)

Aha!

Download a copy of Lightroom 4 Beta which just came out... One of the new features is "White balance brush to refine and adjust white balance in specific areas of your images." I suspect you could then brush various off-color areas as needed.

Thanks. I picked this up only now. I am not on LR, so I'll have to wait for CS6 I guess... Come to think of it I could do this with layer masks, but too muchwork....

Jaap here is my non expert PS attempt, as others mentioned the LR4 can let you lay gels like filter even diagonally across the image and on several layers.
I tried to get the candle light atmosphere as the dominant light balance.
