Wow! The Vario-Elmar 105-280...must research THAT one! Thanks, Jaapv. ;)

Oh, my...Jaapv can you please post a few photos of yours? Also, some representative images? I was wondering what lens Brad Pitt was using... ;) At least this looks like it.

This is definitely a lens that is on my list! Not only for the R lenses, but Leitax makes an adaptor for Nikon bodies, etc. Just wow!

I know Mr. Pitt shoots an S2, but beyond that, not sure... :)

The camera shown is an R8 or R9. Bobby sent me a PM and knows that Brad shoots an M2 and, somewhere, I remember he also is seen with an M digital. 8-)

Oh, my...things change sometimes...my Leica kit now is:

M3 + Summarit 1.5
R4 + Cron 50
III F + Industar 26/Jupiter 8
Leica X1 may be on the horizon

I dunno, seems that something is out of balance when I take the R8 out of the mix. Maybe two R bodies an X1 and the IIIF would be more balanced?

My R8 with DMR is in Germany for repair! I received the quote from Leica today, in the mail, even though my email was on their form! Looks like $1,000 USD to adjust collimation; repair apeture stopping mechanism; replace diaphram setting group; repair damaged housing (news to me!) ; clean the sensor.

If I buy a used R8 there is no guarantee how long it will last. Used is with in $250 of the repair so i am going to have it repaired.

Shooting with a Nikon D-80 as a back up and a Leica D-Lux 3.

Hmm, I would've suggested going with another used body but if your'e saying it's within $250 of yours being repaired - you're right. That doesn't sound worth it as then you have an "unknown." :(

I have always thought about getting into the R-system. A friend of mine has a Portuguese-made body with Canadian lenses and he says that the camera reminds him of me. (I'm Portuguese but born and raised in Canada) The R bodies are very cheap right now and I'm very tempted by an R8. However, the R lenses are still quite expensive, relatively speaking. I already have a very nice and complete Pentax system but I don't use it much. I use rangefinders for nearly all my photographs so investing in another SLR system would probably be wasteful for me.

If I were to get an R camera, I'd use it as an extension for my M system. The R lenses that I'm attracted to the most is the 100mm APO-Macro-Elmarit-R and the 280mm APO-Telyt-R. Unfortunately, neither are cheap.

I am fortunate to own both the 100 APO-Macro and "the better than the APO-Telyt-" 2.8 280 mm . The 280 mm is one huge piece of glass to hold.

Done! The R8 and 80 Lux are married...but the Cron had to go to partially fund the switch. Now on the look for a lens for the R4...but no hurry.

The M8...well, not happening with the recent turn of events. The DMR is off the list as well but not willfully.

However, the Vario 105-280 is now on...not the dream list...but the LUST list! Wow...
