This was an odd one - I followed dog and owner through the swank Charleston Place hotel, and finally got a chance to photograph it outside on the walkway. But the dog was getting lots of attention and it was moving its head quite a bit, so I fired off as many as I could just to get this. The very wide aperture left almost no DOF, but I think this works anyway. Some of the brighter areas are blown. Monochrom/Noctilux, f0.95, 1/15, ISO 800.

It does work. A 50mm at 1/15, f.95 and close distance the hit/miss odd with be very high, so it impressive to get most of the large face in focus

A good technique if you can see the rangefinder, which will help you keep your eyes on the subject without getting distracted by camera settings, is to make the best mental estimate of the shooting distance, set that on the lens, walk to your shooting position, and when you put camera to eye, step slightly back and forward to see the sharpest image in the rangefinder and snap away.

Users of 35 mm film never had the luxury to shoot bursts when the shutter speed is low, but digital really improves on that.
