as a guest to this wedding, can this shot be technically termed as 'street'?
btw, the guests were not in fancy dress as per the approaching 'spiderboy'...

It looks like a street shoot (a good one too).

Why does it matter?

i suppose it matters only if one is to strictly regard 'street photography' as capturing candid ie. unstaged situations. then again, it is well assumed that some of the 'great' street photographers, such as Robert Doisneau and that other French chap who you quote in your signature, staged some of their shots. personally, for me, an image is an image and the matter of its categorisation is always going to be subject to interpretation based upon others' pre-conceptions.

as a new person to this group, i was wondering if there were any hard and fast rules on categorisation and whether this was going to be picked up by the forum police and sent off packing to 'wedding photography'.

it seems not, which is just how i like it. :D

Firstly, this forum is not a police state; your photo is safe in the people and street section.

I understand there is a new wave of "street" photographers that hold so firmly to the made up rules they even confuse themselves, but even if they ran this website (thankfully they don't) I dont think they could find fault calling your photo a street shot--as long as you didn't admit to the fact that you where invited to the wedding :p
