Elvis has left the building.
The building is still there, thankfully, and your vivid photographs remind us of a wonderful time.

That combo does a fantastic job of capturing the neon! Lovely shots.

I recorded there back in the 90's. When the gift shop was still a café, and you could get fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and the upstairs was a storage area.

I have some photos, but they're still on film. Never scanned 'em in.

That area of town never bothered me much. It was the area closer to STAX that I always found sketchy. I remember pulling the rig up to a hotel near there and there was like 4" bullet proof glass where the clerk was at. I was like, yeah... I'm gonna go ahead and stay somewhere else.

Whenever we played up there we used to stay at this little crud-hole called the Admiral Benbow Inn.

And what was that horrible BBQ place on Union across from the hospital, Topps? We used to eat there every day because it was cheap.

I haven't been up to Memphis to stay in a few years. I drive through it once in awhile. Maybe I'll try to head up for Goner Fest this year.

Memphis has always been one of my favorite little cities. I remember meeting one of my guitar idols, Paul Burleson of the Johnny Burnett Rock and Roll Trio at Young Ave. Deli. He was sitting next to me watching Sleepy La Beef play. He was shocked I knew who he was. Man I was like 22 years old and I was STOKED. Yeah, Memphis has some good memories for me, 2 decades ago seems like yesterday.

Still rough. But cleaned up a lot, wouldn't stay near there
