Another reason why I wish I lived closer! With my new Q I got the LR6 module & think now is a good time to start using it again (I stopped a while back, switching to Aperture - that Apple no longer supports). And I just attended the film festival here in Palm Springs where there were many seminars advocating its use, particularly with the Q's Adobe DNG raw files. This LR overview might be a good refresher & intro to new features.

It was an interesting program, Jed. Although these three fellows make frequent presentations on Digital imaging (not limited to Leica), they come from different backgrounds and have different views on how best to use the various tools available in digital photography. For example, one presenter describes his approach as "shooting many frames and then weeding a significant percentage out at the initial "import" step. Another presenter takes a different approach: keeping all the frames through import, and searching within each frame for interesting images. He feels that there may be useful images in frames which take time and effort to "bring out." There were many other instances in which the presenters differed in approach.
The program was well attended...almost all the seats were taken. The presenters had a few minor technical problems with their Mac/projector setup. Also, there were lots of questions and answers, which tended to steer the program away from the high-level overview they originally intended to provide. Everyone (including the presenters) agreed that it would be good if they could provide a number of presentations on smaller, more focused topics within the general Lightroom subject. For example, a single 2-hour presentation could be made on how to put together a slide presentation with music in Lightroom.

Thanks very much for this summary of the LR presentation at the LA Leica gallery. I am reading an overview of LR written by Victoria Bampton (Queen Victoria in LR circles) & intend to buy her extensive LR5 reference guide. Also have Peter Krogh's DAM book guide to organizing photos in LR5. Peter gave a great seminar on this topic at the PS Photo Festival also. So hopefully that will get & keep me going until something goodie created for LR6.

I still use LR5, and my reference is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5: Streamlining Your Digital Photography Process, by Rob Sylvan and Nat Coalson, published by Wiley. I took the advice of the authors and had the paperback book's spine replaced with a plastic spiral at the local Kinko's. That way the book lies flat next to my MacBook Pro.
