These image files hopefully illustrate some of the lovely qualities of this lens. They were opened using the default settings in Adobe Camera Raw 4.7. No additional sharpening or processing was done in Photoshop. I find the colorimetry of this lens unusual. However, when wide open in bright, contrasty light, color fringing is a problem.

I'll make a second post below with an example of this fringing.

Here is an example of the color fringing. Note the 100% crop. Note also the vignetting.

Thanks for posting. Some very nice shots to show what this lens is capable of, and interesting note on the fringing issues

One more example. Ordinarily I'd crop this for composition (it could use it), but this is just a sample to show the lens, and here I think both the bokeh and the colorimetry are good. Notice in the 100% crop no fringing whatsoever. Because the shot is side more than backlit?

Once again straight out of the camera, AWB, only ACR 4.7 default sharpening.

I have to add that I've probably got it wrong with my fringing example. I'm not that technically knowledgeable when it comes to the workings of digital sensors, and after reading about Bayer filtration it looks possible that what we see in that example image is some misinterpretation of data at the software level.

That said, it seems true to me that with this lens, the fringing we'd normally expect in bright and high contrast situations seems a problem.

Great thread! Thanks for sharing.

The fringing looks about right - not even the f/0.95 Noctilux is immune. In fact, it might even be worse.
