Hi all. I'm a M2 user from the UK. I mainly work with B/W which I process myself. Have just put a roll of Ektar in the camera, so I may soon be a colour (color) convert. My next venture will be purchasing a film scanner - possibly Plustek 8100. Any thoughts on that one? Forums are a bit of a new experience for me, so hopefully someone will see this and keep me right ?? Best wishes, Smirt |

Hi, Smirt! Welcome to LVL. I love B&W myself, and develop/scan my own at home. My biggest problem is shooting enough of it and finding the time for it all. So I take the lazy, digital approach. I can't speak of the Plustek, as I use an Epson v700 myself. I need more than a dedicated film scanner (e.g. documents, prints, etc.) and it's worked out very well for me - especially after picking up the betterscanning.com MF Holder (I tend to shoot 120 most). We'll help you in any way we can! |

Smirt, hello and welcome to our little window on the world! What part of the UK? New to forums? It is a whole new world full of good and bad when it seems that Internet forums are full of bullying, but none of that here! This is a safe haven for learning, sharing and making friends. Would love to see photos of your M2 and what you have been up to... So post away! |

Hello Smirt, and and can I add my welcome. I'm from the UK as well so you'r not on your own here in that respect. I also occasionally shoot film with my M6 and develop my own. As a scanner I have a Plustek 7300, its a little old now but as I normally only use it for B&W its OK. I use Lightroom to remove any significant imperfections. Get a later version if you can as they have artefact removal built in so can save time. No one has mentioned scanning software yet and I would recommend Vuescan, it works great for me. Hope thats helpful. |

Hi all, and thanks for the warm welcome and advice. I'm from Driffield, East Yorkshire, which is pretty rural. We are close to York which is a nice place. I'm not against digital and use a compact regularly for family pics etc. I have to say that is a wonderful medium. I've used my 35mm Minolta SRT 101 on and off since 1975 but it recently developed a shutter fault. This prompted me to buy the M2. (I've wanted one since my teens!) I've also got a Zorki 4k so am no stranger to rangefinders. However the Leica is a much more usable camera. I'm presently using a Russian lens on the M2 (50mm Jupiter 8) but hope to upgrade to a better 35mm soon. Best wishes smirt |

Welcome. East Yorkshire is a beautiful area, I look forward to seeing some photos posted. As to the plustek, there is a bit if a learning curve but once you get it the results are as good as can be expected from a scanner in that price range. |

Thanks for the feedback on the scanner. Just need to convince my wife now!! Yes East Yorkshire is a nice place. Not too many people have discovered it yet though. Once I get the scanner I'll post some pics. I haven't been to the USA yet but would love to. I have a friend in LA so maybe one day? I'm a bit of a 'country boy' and guess I'd be well catered for over there. Plenty of chances to try to wear out the M2. |

Convincing the wife if always the hardest part! Lots of "country folk" here in the USA, but perhaps not so much LA... But no worries. ...and good luck wearing out the M2! |

Well, I am a country boy! But that was how I grew up, on a dry road in a tiny house with wood in the fireplace to stay warm. we went hunting and fishing when not working. Never spent much time around a farm, though. Bring that M2 and I will show you some "Down-South" good times! |
