I've got a meeting at 1:30pm - hopefully I can get out a bit after that for some shooting down towards the harbor. Here's a (relatively) boring shot:

Our weather people in Finland are saying it'll hit you full force at around 10pm - 12pm time. Wind gusts upto 35-40 meters per second.. which is monumental. We never see that kind of weather here (luckily). They're also forecasting you some 200mm of rain and sea level could go up some 3 meters in some areas.

All of that will mean massive damages.. so hope you're safe & prepared.

For me it's kind of lucky it hits the east cost now, as I'm flying to states on friday. Going to Miami for couple of days and then 5 day cruise to Bahamas.. which just got hit by Sandy couple of days ago.

The real kicker of the night was shortly after 6pm just as it started to get particularly dark... There came a sudden rumbling, a loud CRASH. A scary kind of crash. Turns out a HUGE tree from the neighbor's yard crashed down into mine and hit the house! Thankfully no major damage; I dodged numerous bullets. Minor roof damage along with some soffit and the gutter. A small metal shed had the front half crunched. Just missed the pool, the limbs missed utility cables and a larger, wooden shed and a car in the driveway. Also missed a relatively new A/C compressor.

As if that wasn't enough... A short while later came another horrific CRASH. That's right. A second tree came down in the back yard. This time it landed next to the other but fell just short of the house. It did crush sections of deck railing and some of the deck itself - and is laying across one side of the pool... Which is STILL standing.

Each of those trees knocked down sections of 6' fencing in the back and on the side - and a section in the front of the house blew over. So three sides of the property in all. And a few 10-12' landscaping trees.

Phone, cable and internet are down. Power flickered a bit here and there but remained up. The next row of houses on either side - no power from early on in the evening! I decided to take a walk around the block in the pitch black, flashlight in hand. What I did see was trees down on lines everywhere, a street lamp crashed to the ground and not a single light anywhere... It was ugly. I decided not to proceed in the event I couldn't see a power line on the road with my just my flashlight.

All in all I'm mostly happy... The power stayed on, the house is warm and dry and everyone's safe. Any damage outside appears relatively minor in the grand scheme of things.

Time will tell what the morning brings however... I'll post photos of the carnage.

They're saying on the radio that 72% of Long Island is without power. Over 2M people throughout NY. ALL roads in the neighboring county have been declared "closed." Impassable. Major trees down on the highways as well. All bridges, tunnels (except the Lincoln), subways, trains, busses and ferries in NYC shut down.

In other words, there's really no way out of Manhattan and therefore, Long Island.

This storm is BAD.

We are now officially back online, on the proper server, etc.

Total downtime was about a week before we got onto a temporary server. But we're good to go now.
