I'm going to Tenerife, Spain, in few weeks time for a family vacation. We've been there once before and went to Loro Parque zoo. We had a great time, but unfortunately the Orca show was cancelled. So we were thinking of doing it again..

In preparation I was thinking of researching them a bit so I could tell my 5 year old daughter something about them.

So I was just browsing netflix couple of hours ago and ran into document Blackfish. I'm shocked.. the things those poor Orca's are put through. Turns out they have more developed emotions than humans and even have parts of brain that we don't. Then these animals are deprived from their freedom and separated from their life long family groups.

It was a seriously disturbing documentary, regardless of coming out hipocrate at times since most of the interviewed people were ex-orca trainers from various parcs.

I'm seriously considering skipping the whole zoo. I'm sure the show would be great, but I think I can't be apart of what's happening in there. In the document they even tell that one of these traumatized whales actually killed a trainer in this very zoo.

If you haven't seen it, think you ought to watch it. Seaworld organization is responsible at so many levels it's unbelievable.

And sorry for being a spoil-fun, but I really needed to vent somewere. Disturbing stuff, I tell ya..

Yes, Blackfish is an incredible documentary piece... And horrifying at the same time. I totally understand your reaction. Thankfully, they're removing the orca shows at Sea World here one by one (and overall attendance is WAAAAY down).

No worries venting. :)
