One of the first people to get their hands on the new APO ASPH Summicron 50mm is photographer Boris Buschardt, and in his blog he's done a couple rough comparisons between the new Summicron and the current Summilux:

Quick Test of the Apo-Summicron 2.0/50mm Asph.

More Tests of the Apo-Summicron-M 2.0/50mm Asph.

Good stuff, thanks for posting Alex. I've added the links to the front page story as well.

Seems the new lens is living up to its expectations as far as sharpness. Perhaps not surprising that the performance is mostly towards the edges and corners and more so wide open. It'd be interesting to see these tests repeated, using an MM - as I don't think the M9 is doing the 50AA full justice.

I don't know if the 50AA will really show what it's made of until Leica (or some other mirrorless ff) comes out with a 35+ megapixel sensor :D. Leica glass is just so good, that even the Summarit 50 out-resolves the M9 sensor.

Overall I'm happy they announced the 50 APO price right off the bat, so I could go buy my Summilux and be done with it.
