Wondered about Tipp-ex (sold in US as White-out, Liquid Paper) pen as well, should be especially good on lenses for white there are replacement flanges with the pits.

To emulate the 50mm f/1.4 ASPH, looking at bottom of lens and working clockwise, just color in the spot that corresponds to first sensor on lens, around 8 o'clock. Or first hole (closest to yoke) on Tim isaac's coder ring. Vida Leica's chart says that this is the code for the 28mm f/2.8, and also notes that the same code can be good for more than one focal length, because Leica notes the right combination of focal length (I guess for the frame lines) and 6 bit pattern. Brilliant! Tim gave this advice on Typ 240: the sensor array is more curved than on earlier digital bodies, so especially withe the sensors at each extreme it may be necessary to slant the mark / paint slightly.

Sorry meant to say the Tipp-Ex method is only for replacement flanges or LTM adaptors with pits. It will just rub off if you use it directly on the lens mount.
