Well, hey - I still use fountain pens too. :D

Mechanical devices are fascinating. A bit retro, sure. But they can outlast us (if maintained) and don't require batteries... Which can be a pain to find and install. Often a jeweler is required, and that's not cheap either. There's just something about such an intricate, finely tuned machine that's really neat.

I think that if you're of a certain age (these days, maybe over 35  ) the constancy of something well-made, cleverly engineered and enduring has a timeless appeal, as opposed to the 12 month update interval of yet another APS-C Nikon D12,000 with a rocket pack for drone work, Canon EOS with a top ISO of 100 million for ghost image capture or 6k video for the motion pictures you'll never make, iPhone 9s Plus Super Duper that communicates with the dead, or a 6th tricked-out variant of the same old M240...all the while the one you bought 3 iterations ago is still perfectly fine. And then they're virtually worthless in 3 years time.

Does get tiresome.

Juha:
Those Omega co-axial chronometers are very attractive. The Globemaster in rose gold is just breathtaking (although, so is the price tag :o ). About 35 years ago I owned a Speedmaster Professional, and I'm glad to see that the Speedmaster line is still going strong.

rose gold.. man, that would be something. Unfortunately it's so out of budget I can't even dream about it! But with a massive stretch, a steel version with blue "pie pan" could be achievable. And it still looks fantastic :-)

My pride and joy... Picked it up in the Caribbean a few years ago. A Breitling 125th anniversary Navitimer.

I've never seen the anniversary version; thanks for sharing. The Navitimer is an absolute classic. 8-)

You're welcome! Definitely a classic. This anniversary edition is interesting; I was drawn to the brown face on this one and fascinating arm band. The thing's a tank!
