I tend to have no fear shooting in the elements with my Leica Ms, after I usually take the caps off my camera and lenses, wipe them off, and let them sit in a dry place for the night. Still I'm curious if non-weather sealed lenses (like leica) might be prone to fungus if they get wet even if they are dried off?

As long as they don't get particularly "wet" or moisture gets inside, you'll be fine. The important thing is to let them dry fully before storing them as fungus thrives in moisture, darkness and when there's little air movement. You've got the right idea.

If you know you'll be out in rain, snow, etc. it's worthwhile to use a UV filter, just as an extra measure and of course, a hood helps to keep the front element (or filter) clear as well.

Good to hear a reaffirmation of my initial thoughts. I always use a B+W clear filter or afilter on my lenses anyway (with hoods) and store my dry lenses with those Pelican desiccant tins just to be sure—a wonderful $9 product that can be reused by putting them in the oven for a couple hours. Thanks for the knowledge!

If my Leica gear has been subjected to rain or a high humidity environment, I get one of my silica gel dessicant packs, put the camera and/or lens in a gallon size ziplock bag with the silica pack, zip the bag closed and leave it sit overnight. The silica gel will absorb any moisture that may have gotten into the camera or lens.

You can get these silica dehumidifief packets at http://www.silicagelpackets.com

The 40 gram silica pack that is in a 2"x4"x1/4" perforated aluminum container is a good size for photographic applications, as is the 45 gram 2.25"x2.25"x1" plastic container.

Good idea. Thanks!

I have a couple of these that are always with my lenses:

Seems to be the same as the aluminum container on the link you provided
