My azz.

No way I'm signing up for a yearly subscription.

Makes two of us. Painful enough with Office365.. I understand why they do it, transitioning people to subscription gets them steady income.

If they force this on people, I'll look elsewhere.

Same here... I was never keen on "renting" software that only works as long as you keep paying. I'd rather buy something, even if it means it's "outdated" eventually - at least I can still use it - or choose to upgrade.

Capture One is the only alternative I see giving me the same results. Learning a new package has it's challenges though.

Yeah, C1 is very capable and goes back and forth with ACR-LR/PS over better results. Worth looking into.

If you have a Mac, check out Pixelmator (http://www.pixelmator.com/mac/). It has come a long way since the earlier days and finally adding 16-bit support a while back, has become a viable contender.

There's also Affinity Photo by Serif (https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/).

For Linux, Mac and Windows there's The GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) which is FREE.

I have high hopes for Affinity. If Adobe screws me over, that's the way I'll be looking.. Still was a damn shame what Apple did woth Aperture, as that was my favorite.

Apple really f*cked up. Aperture had huge potential and was already very cool. Then again, they've laid waste to most of their pro apps. A real shame.

I also went to Aperture when Adobe introduced their subscription model & am still using it for DAM. But I picked up Affinity Photo in Beta & bought the release a while back when it came out for $40. And it was just named Apple's Best App of the Year, so they are now selling it again for $40, 20% off normal purchase price of $50. If you are at all familiar with Photoshop which I also have but don't use much, you will have no problems with Affinity Photo. But it works much more simply & intuitive than PS & handles the Leica M-240 DNG files with ease. Very fast & powerful. Would love to see a review of it by LVL!
