Magazine <B> 34th Issue: Leica

B proudly covers the German camera brand, Leica. From its origins as a microscope maker, Leica made photography a part of everyday life by introducing the first 35mm camera in 1914. Based on this century-old heritage of quality cameras and lenses, the Leica brand highlights the true essence of what a camera is, setting the company apart from powerful Japanese DSLR brands.

Jessops Now Selling Leica Gear

Back in November we reported that UK-based Jessops was to become a Leica dealer. They are in fact now selling Leica gear in a dedicated online store. The pickings are still a bit slim, but this should improve.

Leica Extends and Expands Discounts

You may have heard of the recent price increase on M system and accessories set to drop at the end of January - effectively putting an end to the currently running $750 discount on Leica M and $250 on M lenses. Leica has extended this discount until March 31, 2015, which only makes sense as that's how long the You and Leica M test drive runs, which was renewed for this year.

Leica is now also offering the $750 discount towards the purchase of a new Leica M Monochrom (in silver or black) - this offer is only valid in the U.S. and Canada, however. What this means is that, like we've said earlier - there's no new M Monochrom model coming just yet (as some sites might have you believe). It's very likely that Leica is clearing their inventory, however... It was supposed to be announced at Photokina, so way late.

Daniel Arsham Leicas for Los Angeles Store

Exclusive La Vida Leica news! You may have heard the name Daniel Arsham before. He's a New York based artist who has been creating some very unique and interesting sculptures (including cameras) made of various stone materials. Turns out, he's even made a Leica camera or two (as is seen above). As you may also know, Leica Store Los Angeles sold their popular Fake Leica sculpture over the summer last year, in 2014 - leaving a large void where it once stood. This coming February 7, 2015 the void will be no more and filled with a glass showcase containing 25 life-sized Leica cameras, with five each of a different material by Arsham - including quartz, volcanic ash, and obsidian.

New Leica Store in Paris @ Faubourg Opens

There's a new Leica Store in Paris at 105 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré. This new flagship store has a total area of 170 m2, which hosts more space for sales and consulting, a photo gallery, a bookshop, a Leica Academy as well as new windows dedicated to derivatives and Leica accessories. The gallery will host 4-5 exhibitions per year, of young talents and established artists working wholly or partly with Leica equipment. The gallery is a place open to the diversity of contemporary art, photographic and artistic looks. A library will allow customers to discover a selection of books selected from the best publishers - Xavier Barral, Watermarks, Andre Brothers, Steidl, Phaidon, Only Photography, Mack... Some of them are part of the selection "Martin Parr", carried out for Leica Camera AG. The current exhibition is the artist Dolores Marat, and you can admire a selection of his paintings at the fully drawn Fresson Workshop; a poetic journey into a colorful world with delicate lights.
