Adobe Celebrates 25 Years of Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop turns 25 today - and Adobe is celebrating with a variety of fun events, including Showcase Photoshop’s 25 Under 25 to the world and more. They've put together a blog post with some entertaining graphics comparing Photoshop's icons, toolbars and splash screens of days gone by. Capture One Pro v8.1.1 Released

Not too long after Phase One released Capture One Pro v8.1 back in December, comes this new release of Capture One Pro at v8.1.1. Of special interest to Leica X (Type 113) and D-Lux (Type 109) shooters, which sees new capture and lens support pertaining to them. Phase One has just released Capture One Pro v8.1. Besides a healthy amount of new features, camera and lens support and bug fixes - of special interest to Leica shooters is "Improved support for Leica T." Adobe Updates ACR/DNG to v8.7.1

Adobe on Wednesday announced availability of updates to Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1 and DNG Converter 8.7.1, bringing additional support for cameras and lenses, while patching minor bugs found in previous versions of the software. The updates will be included in an anticipated Lightroom 5.7.1 update within the next week. The only news for Leica shooters, really, is the addition of support for the new Zeiss Distagon T* 1,4/35 ZM lens.

Google Nik Collection Updated

Google released an update to their Nik Collection which is now at v1.2.8 (as of November 10, 2014). Many Leica shooters utilize the Silver Efex Pro software for its excellent B&W conversions and effects - especially users of the Leica M Monochrom (which comes with it). The software should update automatically, but this is apparently a bit flaky. Read more below for details!

Leica Licenses Patent Portfolio of Intellectual Ventures

Leica Camera AG has licensed a patent portfolio of Intellectual Ventures to strengthen the existing intellectual property (IP) strategy and position of Leica Camera. The agreement provides the Wetzlar based manufacturer of cameras and sport optics products with a license to IV’s patent portfolio of nearly 40,000 IP assets in more than 50 technology areas, including digital imaging. Leica is also now a subscriber to IV’s IP-for-Defense™ program, a strategic defense tool for companies faced with the threat of patent litigation. Under this agreement, Leica can access patents from IV’s growing portfolio on an as-needed basis to protect its business. Read more below for details!
