All things must come to an end... Including Leica's seemingly perpetual 12% savings program in the USA launched a year ago on May 1, 2015. Alas, this coming May 10, 2016 will mark the end of the program. Because of the weakness of the Euro to the Dollar exchange rate, the program was renewed an unprecedented twelve times; basically every month. Most M, S and TL lenses are going up with a range of increases from $79-$975 depending on the item. Better hurry! Read more below!

Today, Leica Camera has officially announced the Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90–280mm f/2.8-4 that will be available from March 24, 2016 (shipping in April) for $6,395 USD. This fast telephoto zoom lens offers a range of focal lengths that follows on directly from the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–90mm f/2.8–4 ASPH, which launched with the SL camera at the end of last year. Ona has announced a brand new backpack called the Clifton. This new bag is noteworthy because it's their first backpack in leather, and also the first of their camera bags to feature removable inserts (all prior bags only had removable dividers). The new Clifton backpack is handcrafted from Italian leather, features adjustable padded shoulder straps and a layer of air mesh along the back for maximum comfort. The Clifton fits a 13" laptop in a dedicated slot, and also fits a camera and up to six lenses with the included removable dividers. The backpack will retail for $499. From a Manager Magazine article called "Leica Enters Smartphone Market" (in German) it seems that Leica Camera AG might be introducing a new... Smartphone. With the name P9, it seems likely it will be based on the Huawei P9 and run at a price around €600. The announcement could happen as soon as this week at the Mobile World Congress currently underway in Barcelona, Spain. Read more below for details and updates!
