Google has just announced that their Google Nik Collection composed of seven Photoshop plug-ins is now free for everyone.

Go on their website to find out the details & to download them. I did this morning & it was fast & easy. The downloader auto installed them in Photoshop, Lightroom & Aperture on my Mac. It works the same for Windows. Timing was perfect as I was just thinking about buying Silver EfEx Pro.

Thanks for the heads-up! :)

We posted about this on the front page: Google Makes Nik Collection FREE

Be sure to grab the freebie recipes too, while you can.

Sorry for the double post but my quick link to LVL goes right to the forums & I didn't see your more extensive info about it on the home page. And I am not sure what you mean by the "freebie recipes"; can you elaborate more about this? Thanks.

No worries at all!

Back when it was actually Nik Software (and not Google) that owned the plugins, they had free recipes available for download... Basically, presets that were user-contributed or just extras that weren't included with the official software. You can install them for additional looks in Silver Efex Pro and Color Efex Pro.

There were 90 altogether, and you can download them individually or in total.

A search online for these free recipes turns up a whole host of them offered both free of charge & some for sale. They come from many different sources (pro photogs, etc), so it is a bit difficult to assess which ones might be most helpful. I'm starting out just using the presets provided with the software, & also have a book written by Robin Whalley titled "NIK EfEx From Start To Finish" which has a lot of information, including workflows & examples. Here is a photo I converted using one of these standard presets, & thanks for the information about these other presets.

Very nice!

There are definitely some other collections out there. Reasonably priced as well (I saw one for less than ten bucks). I really hope there's a future for the Nik Collection, as I use Silver Efex Pro quite a bit.

You're very welcome - glad it was useful!

Here's another conversion using the NIK Silver Pro 2 filters. This software is quite amazing & I am very happy to be able to get it gratis, even though I suspect that not being supported any further by Google will result in it eventually getting passed by due to the developments of newer software better able to do the same thing.
