Hey all, I have realized after years of shooting images that I simply enjoy BW work. I have a fairly wide use of formats from large format (8x10) through digital systems. I underwent a fairly large sell off to help finance a new car for the wife and I. I currently have a H5D-50C system which I purchased with some grant money and from camera sales. It's an amazing tool but I no longer really need the print size capability I purchased it for. I'm a graduate student getting my MFA and I simply am no longer printing 40x60 and up. I am considering the MM but am unsure about the pure BW sensor versus a color conversion process. Curious what made you decide to switch / upgrade? |

Switch? You make it sound like it's one or the other. I put both color film and BW film in my M7. So I don't see it as switching. On the other hand I don't do color conversions unless I have to. I've always enjoyed the pure process. I still use my BW filters as before. My workflow is entirely different for color or BW. I have had both the MM/M9 and M240/246 combinations. In both cases I purchased the color version first, but in the future I will wait for the Monochrom first then buy both. Because now I shoot 90% BW. |

Look at the body of your work and see what the final output tends to be. In my case, >80% ended up B&W and both tonality and resolution from the monochrome sensors beats conversion by quite a margin (for me, at least). |

I don't see, for me, the Monochrom is something to switch to, it's more like evolution. In time I might, but today they supplement each other. Color supplements BW. |
