Going on a year with my lowly Leica R4 + Cron 50 and loving it! It is doing a great job in tandem with my M3 and fills in those areas where the M3 cannot get the job done...such as Macros and, quite frankly, serve as a separate film body with a different ISO film or color film.

Both are intuitively similar in operation and sometimes I just like having a metered body.

Not bad for a quality camera body for under $200 with the Leica name and quality built-in! :D

Now I lust for an R8 or an R9...

I've always wanted to give the R system a try - if for nothing else, the lenses! But with all the adapters available these days, the price has been creeping up. Should've bought a suitcase full after Leica 86'ed the R system!

But yeah, I'd love a nice R8/R9 with a Summilux or Summicron 50. Leica was really on the ball by offering the DMR. Maybe a little light on the megapixels but lovely output just the same.

Michael, my dream R-kit would be the R8/R9 with a DMR and the 80 Lux. I could live without the DMR and still have a killer rig with the Lux for little money compared to an M body + 75 Lux. Ah, dreaming is okay, right????.... Don't want the Thought Police or Leica Bashers coming after me.

Lucky for you, this is a safe haven for Leica fans. :P

Now you're talking - the 80 Lux is another really sweet lens. Honestly, if I didn't already have enough systems to keep me busy I'd probably get one. But you know how that is... You get a body (with a unique mount) and of course you'll want a lens... But it never seems to stop at "just one." ;)

A real bummer that Leica dropped the R system. I'd have loved to see the DMR mature further.

There is a method to this madness, though:

M3 + Summarit (B/W, Portraits, Street, etc, when I need inconspicuity)
M8 + Cron (Same as above for when I prefer color images...of course, saving up the cash to purchase will be awhile)

R4 + Cron (Everything else that the M-bodies don't do as well)
R8 + 80 Lux (Same as above but with more character)

The last I looked, a 75 Lux for the M is more than twice as expensive as the 80 Lux R mount...

Sounds like a well-rounded kit there! 8-)

The 75 Lux is a darn nice lens with a bit of cult status (don't they all?) so it's up there. I never seemed to care much for the focal length - I prefer either 50 or 90. But it has its merits, no doubt.

It is not just the 80 Summilux that is a dream lens. many R lenses shine on the R8/DMR. Mine is virtually welded to the Vario-Elmar 105-280 :):)
